Next StepsAmphibians are facing an unprecedented global mass extinction. Of the over 5,000 species of amphibians, it is estimated that more than one third are experiencing serious declines or are already extinct. Tree Walkers International (TWI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of amphibians. To meet this challenge, TWI is developing the Amphibian Steward Network (ASN). ASN is an innovative program that leverages the resources of citizen scientists and conservationists by building a network of private and professional stewards working toward the common goals of protecting and preserving wild populations of amphibians through a managed captive breeding program. The organization can uniquely and effectively have a positive impact on conservation through this initiative, something which no other organization is currently poised to do. How You Can HelpTWI philosophy is based on the principle that amphibian conservation is a collective endeavor where everyone can benefit and contribute. Our interim steering committee is serving an initial one-year term in order to create the infrastructure necessary for an open, democratic, and effective organization. We have recently received our federal tax exemption and are open to the community at large for membership. Members are able to participate in special interest committees, be part of the Amphibian Steward Network, or to serve on the steering committee. |
